"Carthage" continued: NABU reports exposure of new criminal organisation. VIDEO

A criminal organisation has been exposed, whose members had established a systematic practice of paying bribes to senior law enforcement officials in exchange for allowing fraudulent call centres and other illegal businesses to operate unhindered.

This was reported by the NABU press office, according to Censor.NET.

What is known?

"The organiser was a man with multiple previous convictions who had recruited serving senior officials from the SSU, the Office of the Prosecutor General, the National Police and members of the criminal underworld into his criminal activities," the statement said.

Under the guise of law enforcement officers, members of the organisation operated fraudulent call centres that defrauded Ukrainian citizens and foreigners, sold drugs, and illegally produced counterfeit cigarettes and fake foreign currency.

"In addition, they organised premeditated attacks, kidnappings and assaults in the interests of the criminal organisation.

At least 12 people were involved in the organisation," the NABU added.

What led up to this?

  • Earlier, NABU reported that a senior SSU official was threatening to use a weapon and obstructing a search.
  • Subsequently, the Bureau stated that NABU and the SAPO had uncovered a criminal organisation that systematically bribed senior officials of the SSU, the National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office in exchange for ‘protection’ of fraudulent call centres and other illegal businesses.
