Air gunners aboard the Ukrainian Air Force’s Yak-52 light aircraft are shooting down Russian attack and reconnaissance drones in the skies over the Odesa region.

According to Censor.NET, Ukrainian defenders from the 11th Separate ‘Kherson’ Army Aviation Brigade are using light piston-engine aircraft to intercept enemy drones, which they shoot down with small arms fire.

As the Yak-52 aircraft are not equipped with machine guns, the role of the gunner is performed by a soldier who sits in the flight instructor’s seat and fires through the open canopy.
