Ukraine insists on Europe’s participation in talks with Russia in Abu Dhabi, Costa supported this position – Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy: Costa supports Europe’s role in Ukraine peace talks

During a meeting with European Council President António Costa in Madrid, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed that European representatives must participate in peace talks on Ukraine. According to him, Costa supported this position.

Zelenskyy reported this on Telegram, Censor.NET reports.

The president said he had discussed preparations for trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States and Russia in Abu Dhabi with Costa, as well as Ukraine's priorities for those talks.

He also briefed the European Council president on a conversation with the US side that took place on November 4.

"Ukraine has always advocated for Europe to be at the negotiating table. When it comes to security guarantees and Ukraine's economic recovery, these issues cannot be discussed without European representatives. And António supports this position of ours," Zelenskyy stressed.

Accelerating Ukraine's EU accession

The two sides separately discussed the European integration process and ways to accelerate negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine is working to close all negotiating clusters by the end of 2026 and move on to closing negotiating chapters in 2027.

"We discussed our new ideas that could really accelerate the entire process. We agreed that António would discuss everything with Ursula," the president said, referring to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
