Buggy has been contracted by Defense Forces for first time, - Ministry of Defense

2,000 buggies have been contracted for the Ukrainian Armed Forces

The DOT Defense Procurement Agency has contracted buggies for the Defense Forces—more than 2,000 units.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense, according to Censor.NET.

According to Deputy Minister of Defense Mstyslav Banik, the savings resulting from the tender amount to approximately 1.5 billion hryvnias.

"Thus, thanks to the tender procedures, we are using our resources more efficiently, directing the savings toward other needs of our military," he added.

It is noted that these are all-wheel-drive vehicles (4x4 can be turned on and off) equipped with off-road tires.

Why the military needs buggies

A buggy is a lightweight, mobile off-road vehicle. It is fast and maneuverable, allowing units to move where heavy equipment gets stuck or becomes too conspicuous.

Buggies are used to carry out the following tasks:

  • evacuation of the wounded: medics take advantage of the vehicle’s smooth ride and drive right up to the positions;
  • delivery of ammunition, provisions, fuel, and equipment to remote positions;
  • reconnaissance and patrolling, as the buggies are quiet and highly maneuverable.
  • rapid deployment of small groups of infantry and drone operators.

It should be noted that these procurements expand the Defense Forces’ capabilities in the use of maneuverable vehicles and strengthen the provision of necessary means of transportation to units.

The procurements were conducted through Prozorro

The Defense Procurement Agency (DPA) conducted simplified procurements through the Prozorro electronic system and divided them into 11 separate lots. This allowed suppliers to compete with one another, and the Agency selected the most favorable bids.

Suppliers are required to deliver nearly all of the contracted vehicles by December 2026.
