NRC greenlights introduction of 12-year education in Ukrainian schools, - Presidential Administration

The National Reforms Council (NRC) has approved a reform of Ukraine's school that provides for 12-year education system.

Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, Secretary of the National Reforms Council Dmytro Shymkiv said at a briefing, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrainski Novyny.

"Following the meeting of the National Reforms Council (March 31), a number of decisions were made. In particular, the concept of a new Ukrainian school was supported," he said.

Shymkiv also said the Cabinet of Ministers and the president's envoy for children's rights will soon develop clear steps for reforming boarding schools.

On March 31, a National Reforms Council meeting discussed a reform of general secondary education, the development of inclusive education, a possible reform of the system of institutional care and child rearing.

The reform of Ukraine's school will kick off in 2018, when children go the 1st grade of the new school with new textbooks and trained teachers in place. It's only in 2029 that Ukrainian pupils will go to the 12th grade for the first time.
