Avenger anti-aircraft missile systems were put into service in AFU. PHOTOS

Ukraine’s air defense forces have been reinforced with AN/TWQ-1 Avenger self-propelled anti-aircraft missile systems.

According to Censor.NЕТ, the footage of these systems and the Ukrainian military was shown by analysts from Ukraine Weapons Tracker.

This is the first footage of the recently delivered short-range air defense system.

In total, Ukraine was to receive 12 such air defense systems from the United States.

These vehicles arrived from the United States to Germany in the first half of February. The equipment was delivered to the German port of Bremerhaven.

The system is designed to engage air targets at altitudes of 0.5-3.8 km and ranges of 0.5-5.5 km.

The American self-propelled short-range air defense missile system mounted on the chassis of the HMMWV army off-road vehicle.

The SAM is equipped with two containers of 4 FIM-92 Stinger missiles, a 12.7 mm Browning M2 anti-aircraft machine gun and an optoelectronic station.

A remote control is included in the package. The detection system is all-weather and provides target detection in all visibility conditions thanks to the built-in thermal imager.

Due to the highly maneuverable missiles that can be independently aimed at the target, a large-caliber anti-aircraft machine gun and a high level of automation, this system should become an effective and cheap means of air defense for Ukraine.

The use of relatively cheap and widespread missiles from the FIM-92 Stinger man-portable anti-aircraft missile system, which are massively supplied to Ukraine by Western partner countries, allows the system to be quickly integrated into Ukrainian logistics and put on combat duty.

This anti-aircraft missile system can also strengthen the air defense of ground troops on the front line, protecting them from enemy army aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. The new air defense system can also operate while moving in a convoy of vehicles, protecting itself and other combat vehicles. This is a significant advantage over a conventional infantry unit with a portable anti-aircraft system. The Avenger can also perform equally well in any weather conditions and at any time of the day. And bad weather and dusk are a weak point of infantry man-portable air defense systems.
