In the village of Martynivka, Parafiivka community, Chernihiv region, a monument to Taras Shevchenko, which was shot by Russian invaders, was restored.

This was reported by the village head of Parafiyivka, Halyna Petrusha, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"We had Russians on 25 February... Having been repulsed by the Ukrainian army, they returned angry. They shot at the villagers' houses - there was not a single house that was not damaged. They deliberately shot a monument to the soldiers who liberated the village in World War II from a tank... Shrapnel hit the monument to Shevchenko - the entire back of his head was taken off," Petrusha said.

According to Mykola Cherep, a member of the village council, the monument to Shevchenko was made of plaster. It took two months to restore it. Local deputies financed the restoration work, which cost 35,000 hryvnias.

Eventually, the monument to those who died in the Second World War will be restored.

"The monument was shot at by Buryats who were too lazy to look up the names of those who died during that war - and most of them are Buryat. Russian television will not show such a story because it is shameful," Petrusha said.

About 300 people live in Martynivka.
