Operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department together with investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police continue to neutralise corruption schemes in government agencies. One of them was exposed in Chernihiv City Council. It was organised by the head of one of the departments, who demanded a 10% kickback for signing work completion certificates and financial calculations.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police, Censor.NET reports.
According to the investigation, he demanded a 10% kickback from a tender for the reconstruction of a facility in the city that was partially destroyed by Russian shelling.
In return for the illegal benefit, the official promised the local entrepreneur to accept the completed construction work and make all financial payments. The kickback amounted to UAH 142 thousand.
"On 30 November, police detained the head of the city council's department while he was receiving the second part of the bribe - UAH 101,700. A week earlier, he received UAH 40,600.
The official was detained in accordance with the Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code and served a notice of suspicion under the Part 3 of the Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," the statement said.
Acceptance of an offer, promise or receipt of an unlawful benefit by an official is punishable by imprisonment for a term of five to ten years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years, with confiscation of property.
