Attacks on Kyiv TV tower and units of General Staff of Armed Forces of Ukraine were being prepared: SSU detains Russian FSS agents in Kyiv and Odesa. PHOTOS

Two Russian FSB agents were detained in Kyiv and Odesa who were preparing missile attacks on military units, energy and telecommunications facilities in three regions.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press service.

"The agents were particularly focused on army units that provide security for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, data on the Defence Forces in Poltava region, as well as the Kyiv TV tower and the capital's CHP plant. At first, the attackers tried to identify the locations of Ukrainian troops and then send the occupiers the relevant coordinates to adjust air attacks.

To covertly gather intelligence, one of the Russian agents got a job as a forwarder in an Odesa-based company that supplies food to the Defence Forces," the statement said.

Another defendant was collecting information on the technical condition of the Kyiv TV tower after it was shelled in March 2022. He also photographed the appearance of one of the thermal power plants that provides electricity and heat to a large part of the capital region.

"According to the available data, the aggressor needed this information to make a decision on adjusting repeated or new strikes on the local thermal power plant and TV tower. The SSU officers timely exposed the intelligence activity of Russian agents and documented it step by step. Measures were also taken to secure the locations of the Defence Forces and to strengthen the protection of critical infrastructure.

At the final stage of the special operation, both criminals were detained red-handed when they were spying on potential 'targets' for the occupiers," the SSU said.

One of the enemy's accomplices was a process engineer at a food processing company in Odesa. The other was a 24-year-old resident of Kyiv.

"At the end of January this year, they were remotely recruited by an FSS officer in Moscow and Moscow region. The SSU has already identified him. Both agents acted separately from each other and received a monetary 'reward' from Russia for their cooperation in favour of the aggressor country.

During the searches of the detainees' homes, the SSU seized mobile phones with evidence of correspondence with the FSS and bank cards with Russian funds on them," the SSU said.

Both offenders were served a notice of suspicion under Part 2 Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law). The criminals are in custody. They face life imprisonment.
