Losses worth UAH 11 million: forestry officials to be tried in Sumy region for wood fraud. PHOTOS

The SBI, in cooperation with the SSU, completed a pre-trial investigation into seven heads of agro-forestry enterprises in Sumy region and a former deputy director general of the regional utility "Sumyoblagrolis".

What is known about the case?

According to the SBI, the heads of agroforestry enterprises, in violation of a special government decree, sold timber bypassing commodity exchanges at prices below market prices. The contracts were concluded directly with certain entrepreneurs. At the same time, they sold mainly valuable tree species: oak, pine, alder and others.

The seven defendants are accused of intentional abuse of office by an official in order to obtain an unlawful benefit for another individual or legal entity, which resulted in grave consequences.

The former head of the regional utility company "Sumyoblagrolis" is accused of negligence for failing to control the actions of his subordinates.

What is the threat?

The article provides for a sentence of up to 6 years' imprisonment.

Civil lawsuits were filed to compensate for the damage, and the foresters' property was seized.

Earlier, Censor.NET reported that due to the blockade of the borders and non-market prices for wood, enterprises were shutting down - woodworkers appealed to the Office of the President and the government.
