The court found guilty of high treason a woman from Kyiv who, on the instructions of her Russian handlers, wrote a letter to the Russian representative to the UN about Ukrainian support for the so-called "SMO".
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, Censor.NET informs.
As noted, prosecutors proved in court that the citizen, who is the head of a Ukrainian human rights NGO, having received a task from Russian curators, prepared a letter to the Russian Permanent Representative to the UN in February 2022. In her letter, she described the events allegedly taking place in Kyiv and Ukraine, using manipulative technologies and justifying Russia's military aggression. She argued that "the people of Ukraine support the so-called 'Russian special operation in Ukraine'.
It is reported that during the eleventh emergency special session of the UN General Assembly on 28 February 2024, the Russian Permanent Representative to the UN referred to this letter in his official speech as evidence of Ukraine's illegal actions.
"The conclusions of the examinations confirmed that the text of the letter was aimed at inciting national, interethnic, social enmity and hatred, as well as at socio-political destabilisation in the state," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
Thus, the woman was sentenced to 14 years in prison with confiscation of property.
Following the public prosecution by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office, the court found the Kyiv resident guilty of high treason (Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Until the verdict enters into force, the accused will be kept in custody.
According to the Security Service of Ukraine, the woman was an FSB agent who was a member of former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov's inner circle and was engaged in subversive activities in Ukraine under the guise of the head of an NGO. She was detained in March 2022 in Kyiv.
The SSU said that during the investigation, it was established that in addition to preparing anti-Ukrainian statements in international instances, the traitor prepared "reports" on the socio-political situation in Ukraine for the occupiers.
She also appeared on Viktor Medvedchuk's banned TV channels, where she spread Kremlin narratives allegedly on behalf of a "public asset" of Ukraine.
During the searches, the SSU seized mobile phones and flash drives used by the offender in subversive activities in favour of Russia.
In addition, the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office noted: "The mother of a former MP of the VI and VII convocations, who wrote letters to the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN about Ukrainian support for the 'special military operation', was sentenced to 14 years in prison for high treason".
It is worth noting that the traitor's name is not mentioned, but most likely it is Olena Berezhna, the mother of the deceased former MP Iryna Berezhna ("Party of Regions").
It is known that Olena Berezhna was detained in Kyiv in 2019 for wearing a St. George's ribbon at the rally "No one is forgotten. Nothing is forgotten" ("Immortal Regiment").
In 2018, she was also detained at the "Immortal Regiment" rally for the same reason.
