Denys Sakun, an engineer of the Ukrainian Air Force, was killed while defending the Ukrainian sky. He was from Luhansk region and had lived in Irpin, Kyiv region, since 2018.
This was reported by the mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn, in his telegram channel, Censor.NET informs.
What is known about the deceased?
"Denys is a career soldier, originally from Luhansk region. In 2018, he chose Irpin as his second home. He was demobilised and worked in IT. From the first days of the full-scale war, Denys voluntarily joined the ranks of the Air Force of Ukraine. His military journey is a story of courage and bravery that saved thousands of lives who do not even know about it!
His main goal was to win, and then to build a peaceful, happy future for Ukraine," the statement said.
Awards
For his heroism in the army, Sakun was awarded the Order "For Courage", III class, the "Silver Cross" Badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Medal "To the Unbroken Heroes of the Russian-Ukrainian War", the Badge "For Exemplary Service" and other awards.
As noted, Denys Sakun was killed on 20 December while performing a combat mission. He is 40 years old forever.
"A courageous, dedicated defender for whom Ukraine has always come first - this is how his family and friends will remember him. We wish strength to survive this huge loss to the Hero's wife Yana, daughter, parents, friends and colleagues!" Markushyn said.
According to him, the farewell to the Hero will take place on 24 December.
