In Dnipro, unknown persons destroyed a memorial plaque to Ukrainian politician Viacheslav Chornovil, which had stood for more than 20 years.
This was announced by the head of the Dnipro Society of Political Prisoners and Repressed Ivan Dremliuha, Censor.NET reports citing Radio Liberty.
According to him, this fact was discovered by a small group of activists when they came to the site to honour Chornovil's memory.
According to Dremliuha, the board has been standing since the early 2000s.
It is unknown when exactly this happened. The board was glued and screwed down, so it couldn't have fallen by itself, it was well fixed and had been hanging for over twenty years," he said.
Dremliuha said that the activists decided to restore the plaque on their own, possibly in a different design.
According to him, this requires about 4,500 hryvnias, a collection has been announced, and half of the amount has already been received.
The head of the Society of Political Prisoners and Repressed noted that a bust or memorial ensemble in Chornovil's memory may be erected at this site in the future.
It used to be the House of Culture of Railway Workers, where People's Movement mebers gathered and where Viacheslav Chornovil personally visited.
At the same time, the activists decided not to go to the police.
