On Friday, 27 December, South Korean intelligence confirmed that Ukrainian troops had captured a wounded North Korean soldier in the Kursk sector.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by Yonhap with reference to the South Korean intelligence agency.
"Through real-time information exchange with a friendly country's intelligence organisation, we have confirmed the capture of the wounded North Korean soldier and plans to carefully study further developments," the South Korean intelligence service said in a release.
This confirms the information provided by the "Militarnyi" media outlet, which reported on 26 December that a DPRK soldier had been captured during an operation in the frontline zone of Russia's Kursk region. A photo of the soldier, who was reportedly injured, appeared on Telegram. However, details about his condition and status are currently unknown.
According to the BBC, an AFP source in North Korean intelligence said that the serviceman had indeed been captured by the Ukrainian army, but it was not known where exactly it happened.
According to South Korean officials, Russia has already received about 11,000 North Korean troops. There are also signs of preparations for further sending of troops and equipment.
Earlier it was reported that North Korea is preparing to deploy additional troops and military equipment in Russia, including kamikaze drones. The DPRK continues to support Moscow in its war against Ukraine.
