A Russian citizen was detained in Donetsk region who was adjusting the strikes of Russian troops on the locations of the Defence Forces in the Lyman sector.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press service.

The detainee is a 56-year-old man who arrived in Ukraine from Moscow a few days before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion under the guise of visiting his daughter in the village of Raihorodok, Kramatorsk district. After 24 February 2022, he lived in the village and tried to lead an inconspicuous life.

"In the summer of 2024, the agent was 'activated' by the FSB and assigned a task: to reconnoiter the positions of the Defence Forces on the eastern front. After that, the Russian began to gradually walk around the area near the frontline, where he tracked the locations of the Ukrainian army's fortifications and artillery. He summarised the information he received and periodically sent it to the Russian secret service to prepare air attacks on the positions of Ukrainian troops," the statement said.

Later, the FSB promised his accomplice to "evacuate" him to Moscow.

The SSU exposed the Russian agent, documented his crimes and detained him. Comprehensive measures were also taken to secure the locations of the Armed Forces.

During the searches, a mobile phone with evidence of his communication with the Russian special service was seized from the detainee.

He has now been served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (dissemination of information about the movement, movement or location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine). He is in custody. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
