Preparing terrorist attack near the Defence Forces: SSU detains Russian agent in Khmelnytskyi. PHOTOS
A terrorist attack by Russian special services was prevented in Khmelnytskyi. A Russian agent who was planning to plant explosives near the base of the Defence Forces was detained.
This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SSU press service.
The man received a task from his Russian handler in early 2025. Among the enemy's priority targets were reserve command posts and permanent deployment sites of the Armed Forces and the National Guard of Ukraine.
To find a place to covertly install explosives, the agent would walk around the area and record geolocations with the highest concentration of Ukrainian military. If such objects were found, the defendant would study their perimeter for "convenient" places to plant an improvised explosive device (IED).
"Later, the agent passed the relevant coordinates to the Russian curator for 'approval' in order to receive instructions on how to manufacture an IED with a remote activation mechanism via phone. The SSU acted proactively and detained the agent when he was conducting additional reconnaissance near the military facility where the occupiers were planning a terrorist attack. At the place of detention, the SBU seized a mobile phone with an anonymous chat in a messenger, where he was communicating with a Russian special service officer," the statement said.
The Russian agent turned out to be a 32-year-old drug addict from the regional centre who was looking for money on Telegram channels for a "dose".
He has now been served a notice of suspicion under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- p. 2 Art. 111 (high treason committed under martial law);
- p. 3 of Art. 114-2 (dissemination of information on the movement, movement or location of the AFU and other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine committed under martial law).
The offender is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
