In the Italian city of Savona, located in the north of the country, two explosions occurred on the oil tanker "Seajewel", which was moored a few kilometres off the coast. According to media reports, the vessel was transporting oil from Russia to Europe in violation of sanctions.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by "Ukrainska Pravda" with reference to IVG.
According to the Italian newspaper IVG, the cause of the explosions is currently unknown. However, the crew of the vessel reported hearing two loud bangs, and the sheets of the damaged hull are concave inwards, indicating that explosive devices were likely placed on the vessel. Other factors that support the explosive device theory are that the damage is located below the waterline and the fish kill near the tanker.
The Savona Coast Guard is conducting an on-site investigation with divers. Investigators are not releasing any further information at this time.
Seajewel is one of the tankers that loaded in Russia three times in 2024 (in February, March and May) and returned after each unloading.
Earlier, "Ukrainska Pravda" found out that the Seajewel tanker was spotted unloading in the Romanian port of Constanta after arriving from the Turkish port of Ceyhan. Sources in law enforcement agencies said that the tanker was supposed to be heading to the Russian city of Novorossiysk for reloading.
