Three Ukrainian flags appeared above parliament in Czech Republic. PHOTO

The ODS, STAN and Pirate Party factions hung three Ukrainian flags on the building of the Czech Chamber of Deputies in response to Speaker Tomio Okamura's decision to remove the previous one.

According to Censor.NET, Novinky reports on this.

"At ODS, we decided to immediately correct the first step taken by the new Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Tomio Okamura. The Ukrainian flag has returned to the Chamber and is hanging in the windows of our parliamentary faction," the ODS said.

"On his first day in office, Mr. Okamura showed that the only thing he is capable of is despising values such as solidarity and the courage to support a country that has been attacked by Russia,"  STAN commented.

"Nothing is changing for us – we are returning the flag, which Tomio Okamura shamefully removed today, to the Chamber of Deputies building. Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the heroes," wrote the Pirate Party.

What preceded it

  • On Thursday, 6 November, the new speaker of the lower house of the Czech Parliament, Tomio Okamura, ordered the removal of the Ukrainian flag from the government building, which had been flying there since 2022 as a sign of solidarity.
  • The politician boasted about his actions. The leader of the right-wing populist SPD party showed how he was holding a ladder for a man who was removing the Ukrainian flag from the facade of the Czech Parliament.
