$30,000 for construction in Lutsk: NABU and SAPO expose Volyn lawmakers in corruption case. PHOTOS
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have exposed members of the Volyn Regional Council and Lutsk City Council for allegedly receiving an illegal benefit.
NABU said this in a statement, Censor.NET reports.
What investigators found
According to investigators, the head of a faction in the Volyn Regional Council, a former MP, acting in collusion with the head of the same faction in the Lutsk City Council, asked the user of a land plot in Lutsk (also a former MP) to provide an illegal benefit of $30,000.
"In return, they promised to secure a favorable vote by members of their faction and the adoption of ‘needed’ decisions by the Volyn Regional Council and the Lutsk City Council to allow construction of a multi-apartment residential building on the plot," the bureau said.
NABU said the former MP agreed to the proposal. After the Lutsk City Council approved a detailed territory plan, he gave the lawmakers half of the amount — $15,000.
"After that, the Volyn Regional Council adopted a decision to change the designated purpose of the land plot, which made development possible," the statement said.
Suspicions served
- The lawmakers were served suspicion notices under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, while the bribe-giver was served a notice under Part 1 of Article 369.
- The issue of selecting preventive measures for the suspects is being considered.
