Illegal "combat" payments and salaries for non-existent military personnel - a major in a military unit is suspected of abuse and negligence amounting to over 11.6 million hryvnias.
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, the major, who is the head of the financial and economic service of one of the military units in the Zaporizhzhia region, has been notified of suspicion of abuse of office and negligence in military service under the procedural guidance of the Zaporizhzhia Specialised Prosecutor's Office in the Eastern Region, writes Censor.NET.
Details
According to the investigation, from the end of August 2023 to December 2024, the major deliberately facilitated the illegal accrual of additional monetary compensation in the amount of 100,000 hryvnias for "performing combat tasks on the front line of defence." His subordinates from the financial and economic service received such payments, although they did not perform any combat missions.
Despite this, documents were prepared on the basis of which the unit commander issued orders for the accrual of remuneration. In total, 11 military personnel illegally received more than 4.25 million hryvnias.
The investigation also established that the major gave his subordinate his login and password for his electronic office. Thanks to access to the "Salary Project" system, the subordinate:
- added non-existent military personnel to the lists;
- changed bank card details, redirecting funds to his own accounts;
- created electronic registers for transferring money.
These actions caused the military unit losses of over 7.35 million hryvnias.
The court imposed a preventive measure on the major in the form of a personal commitment, but the prosecutor's office has already filed an appeal.
