Man who shot at patrol officers in Odesa was killed during his arrest (updated). PHOTOS
During a special operation in the Odesa region, a man opened fire on KORD officers and was shot dead in the ensuing exchange.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.
"He refused to engage with the negotiator and, during the special operation, used a weapon against KORD unit members. The use of force was necessary to neutralise the threat to the lives of law enforcement officers," the statement said.
Details of the incident
It is known that the 45-year-old Odesa resident was wanted for violating military registration rules. During a document check, he began firing an automatic rifle at police officers and fled in a car.
A special police operation was launched in the region to apprehend the gunman. Within a few hours, the police had located the suspect: he was hiding in an unfinished building. During negotiations, the man began firing at the police from the third floor; in response, KORD officers also opened fire. The suspect was killed.
The SBI later reported that during his arrest by members of the KORD special forces unit, the man opened fire again at the law enforcement officers. In response, the officers used their weapons. The attacker’s body was located using aerial reconnaissance.
Investigators from the Bureau are establishing all the circumstances of the incident, including verifying the legality of the use of force.
Proceedings have been initiated under Part 3 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine—abuse of power or official authority.
What led up to this?
In Odesa, a driver opened fire on patrol officers during a document check. As a result of the attack, two patrol officers sustained gunshot wounds. They are currently receiving the necessary medical treatment.
