"1939-1945. We remember. We prevail": V-Day celebration ceremonies took place in Ukrainian cities. PHOTOS + VIDEO

On Monday, May 9, celebrations of the Victory Day over Nazism in WWII took place in Ukrainian cities.

As reported by Censor.NET citing 5 Channel, almost 2,000 people commemorated the Victory Day in Kirovohrad. A column of participants and a military orchestra marched through the city. The event was attended by veterans, participants of combat activities, demobilized soldiers and regular citizens.

Kirovohrad residents were carrying state flags and wearing red poppies on their clothes as symbols of remembrance. Participants of the march laid flowers to several monuments of those killed in the WWII. They also commemorated those killed in current war in the east of Ukraine.

Volunteers and wives of Ukrainian POWs have come with placards reading the names of their husbands and the number '449.' That's the number of days their relatives have been held captive.

Several hundreds of people gathered for V-Day celebration in Mariupol. Both veterans of the WWII and current defenders of Ukraine came to the Monument of liberator soldiers. At the meeting, the participants commemorated those killed in fights for Ukraine with a minute of silence.



In Lviv, the celebration took place at Glory Hill and Mars Field. A religious ceremony was served at the Mars Field, attended by about 100 people.

A number of celebrations took place in Kyiv as well, ZN.UA reports. In the morning of May 9, President Petro Poroshenko laid flowers to the Tomb of Unknown Soldier. Military chaplains served a prayer; a march of military orchestras took place, along with other events. Although some provocations did take place in Kyiv on Victory Day, there were many people and families with children on that day on the streets of the capital.

Several ceremonies took place in Dnipropetrovsk at the Glory Monument on May 9, the Victory Day, 056.ua reports.

Adults and children, MPs and pensioners, as well as a lot of Dnipropetrovsk police forces laid flowers to the monument and greeted veterans and those who helped to restore the country after the war with the holiday.

Celebrations took place at Glory Alley in Odesa, Dumskaya reports. More than 5,000 people came to commemorate those who fell in the World War II.
