The Russian vessel ZAID has loaded 35,800 tonnes of wheat in occupied Sevastopol and is heading for the Turkish port of Iskenderun.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by Kateryna Yaresko, a journalist with the SeaKrime project of the Myrotvorets Centre.
What is known about the ship’s voyage
According to Yaresko, after loading in Sevastopol, the bulk carrier called at the Russian port of Kavkaz to process fictitious documents.
The vessel then set sail for the Turkish port of Iskenderun.
How the ship’s route was concealed
The journalist reported that from 7 to 20 May, the ZAID switched off its AIS transponder, which transmits data on the vessel’s location.
Between 20 and 22 May, the signal reappeared, but due to spoofing, the system showed a false location near Kerch.
What is known about ZAID’s activities
According to SeaKrime, since 2023 the vessel has not undertaken any other voyages apart from transporting grain from occupied Sevastopol.
As Yaresko notes, the ZAID delivered grain to Iran, Syria, Egypt and Turkey.
