The Security Service, the National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office have exposed a further four FSB accomplices who carried out contract arson attacks in the Kirovohrad and Odesa regions.

The investigation revealed that the Russian security service’s tasks were carried out by local residents recruited by the enemy, who were looking for "easy money" on Telegram channels, reports Censor.NET.

In exchange for promises of "quick" side jobs, the suspects agreed to set fire to Defence Forces vehicles using highly flammable mixtures.

In the Kirovohrad region, a criminal group was caught red-handed after setting fire, on the orders of the FSB, to two Ukrainian Armed Forces pick-up trucks that were undergoing maintenance following operations at the front.

According to the case file, the enemy’s mission was carried out by three unemployed men from the Oleksandriia community.

It has been established that, after setting fire to the vehicles, the suspects were to manufacture a homemade bomb to place under the railway tracks in order to blow up an electric train.

In the Odesa region, a conscript was detained who had left his military unit without authorisation and subsequently began carrying out contract arson attacks.

It has been documented how the suspect attempted to set fire to a Ukrainian soldiers’ service minibus in the Dachne community and recorded the blaze on his mobile phone camera for a report to the Russian Federation.

Prior to this, the perpetrator had conducted reconnaissance around the military vehicle, photographed it and coordinated the arson with his FSB handler.

The detainees have now been notified of the charges against them under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

  • obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations during a state of emergency, committed by a group of persons acting in concert;
  • intentional destruction or damage to property by arson.

The investigation is ongoing. The suspects face up to 10 years in prison.
