Ukraine should not accept loss of sovereignty, - Stubb. VIDEO

President of Finland Alexander Stubb said that Ukraine must defend its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, without agreeing to Russia's terms.

He said this during a joint briefing with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Censor.NET reports.

He recalled the experience of Finland, which lost 10% of its territory and sovereignty in foreign policy after the Winter War of 1939-1940.

"The foundation of statehood is based on three pillars - independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Finland lost two of them in 1944 under the Stalinist peace. We retained our independence, but we lost our sovereignty in decision-making, and we lost 10% of our territory," Stubb said.

The President stressed that this story has a personal dimension for him, as the Soviet Union annexed the territories where his relatives were born.

Answering a question about Ukraine's possible consent to territorial concessions, Stubb was categorical:

"To your question whether Ukraine should agree to be in this position, my answer is absolutely not," he said.

He assured that Finland would continue to support Ukraine in its efforts to preserve its territorial integrity and European course.
