Orbán publishes campaign video with Zelenskyy: "Ukraine wants chaos in Hungary". VIDEO
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán released a pre-election video criticising Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and accusing Ukraine of "interfering in the elections."
What is known
"Ukraine wants chaos in Hungary. They are meddling in the Hungarian election by financing the opposition Tisza party. They are also using political blackmail by blocking oil deliveries through the Friendship pipeline to drive up fuel prices and household costs. Hungary will not give in. We will defend Hungarian families," he said.
As is known, parliamentary elections in Hungary will take place on 12 April 2026.
What preceded this?
- Recall that on the morning of 18 August 2025, Hungary and Slovakia stopped receiving Russian oil through the "Druzhba" pipeline after Ukrainian drones struck the Nikolskoye oil pumping station in the Tambov region of the Russian Federation.
- As a result of the strike, a fire broke out at the facility, and oil pumping through the "Druzhba" main oil pipeline was completely stopped for almost two days. However, late on Wednesday evening, 20 August, Russia resumed oil supplies to Hungary and Slovakia through this pipeline.
- However, on the evening of 21 August, the Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) struck the "Unecha" oil pumping station in the Bryansk region of the Russian Federation, one of the largest hub stations of the "Druzhba" oil pipeline.
- As a result of the strike, Russian oil supplies to Hungary were halted again. On Friday, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, citing Russian government officials, said that it would take at least five days to restore the pipeline's operation this year.
- Earlier, Orbán publicly rejected US pressure to reduce purchases of Russian energy resources.
