The West wants to secure a ceasefire in order to gain a ‘breathing space’ and ‘arm’ Ukraine.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, according to Censor.NET, citing Russian media.

"They want to achieve an immediate ceasefire to halt the Russian offensive, once again – just as during the ‘Minsk Agreements’ – to gain a respite and buy time to supply the Kyiv regime with fresh batches of weapons," he said.
According to Lavrov, the West wants Russia to "surrender".
What led up to this?
It should be recalled that earlier, the Russian dictator’s aide Ushakov stated that Russia was allegedly ready for dialogue with the European Union.
Ushakov also claimed that Moscow is awaiting victory and the realisation of its own objectives, rather than the implementation of the agreements reached in Anchorage.
