Canada Stops Airplane Plant Construction in Russia Due to Its Aggression

According to the publication, in August 2013 the Rosteh corporation and Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier agreed to build a factory in Ulyanovsk in 2014 and manufacture turboprop planes Q-400 NG with a capacity of 70-78 seats. The investment in the project was planned at $100 million.

According to a representative of Bombardier, in March Canada joined the sanctions against Russia, and cooperation has stalled, and now it is suspended. "We are in the process of discussion with Rosteh and hope to reach an agreement in 2014. But, given the context of what is happening now, it seems that the schedule for the project may move to the next year," he said.

In spring, Bombardier's president Pierre Beaudoin admitted to Bloomberg that plans to establish a joint venture in Russia to build the Q-400 aircraft may be delayed because of the events in Ukraine. In response, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin proposed to concentrate on Russian aircraft.
