Russia plans new protests in Moldova to overthrow government - White House

U.S. intelligence has obtained information indicating that Russian special services are preparing new protests in Moldova to undermine situation and overthrow government.
This was stated at a press briefing by White House National Security Council Coordinator John Kirby, informs Censor.NЕТ, reports Ukrinform.
"As Moldova continues to integrate into Europe, we believe that Russia is trying to weaken its government with the likely ultimate goal of seeing a more Russian-friendly administration in the capital," he said.
According to Kirby, there are "attempts on the Russian side to stage and exploit the protests in Moldova" in order to "fabricate a rebellion" against the government. In addition, according to US intelligence, a group of Russians is preparing new demonstrations in the country.
"Over the past years, we have seen how Russia has tried to destabilize other European countries, but failed," he said, recalling the events in Montenegro in 2016.
The White House representative also noted that Russians are trying to create information confusion about the situation in the region.
"For example, we have seen Russian officials claim that Ukraine is planning to attack the separatist region of Transnistria. Let me be clear: these allegations are unfounded, they are false," Kirby emphasized.
In this context, the Biden administration representative informed that the United States is taking a number of steps to prevent Russia from destabilizing Moldova. According to him, this includes close cooperation between the United States and the Moldovan government, the imposition of sanctions against all those involved in destabilization efforts, including oligarchs and corrupt politicians. In addition, the United States will provide Moldova with $265 million in emergency support in connection with Russia's war against Ukraine.
