The UK continues to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and calls on Russia to meet its obligations under the 2008 Ceasefire Agreement.

This was stated by the head of the British Foreign Ministry James Cleverley in Tbilisi, Censor.NET informs with reference to the Radio Liberty project "Echo of the Caucasus".

"Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, complete disregard for international law, is not surprising to you. Russia's aggression in Georgia in 2008, which led to the annexation of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, separates families and deprives Georgians of the opportunity to visit their sacred religious sites and lands of our ancestors. We continue to support your sovereignty and territorial integrity. South Ossetia and Abkhazia are integral parts of Georgia and we call on Russia to abide by the 2008 Ceasefire Agreement," Cleverley said.

He noted that, as in the case of Ukrainians, Georgians have a sovereign right to decide the future of their country without outside interference, "and we respect that."
