"Our ambitions were greater," - Stefanishyna about interim evaluation of European Commission

Ukraine expected a higher interim assessment from the European Commission, but the recognition of progress in implementing the recommendations is unprecedented.
This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine, Olha Stefanishyna, on the air of the telethon, Censor.NET reports with reference to Interfax-Ukraine.
"Our ambitions were greater. We, in particular, expected that the block of measures related to anti-corruption would be evaluated more deeply. We also expected that by this assessment we would fully adopt the legislation on launching the reform of the Constitutional Court, but it was adopted only in the first reading," she said.
However, Stefanishyna added, for the European Commission to recognize any progress in the fulfillment of obligations less than a year after receiving the candidate status is unprecedented, because countries have been working on the implementation of such recommendations for years.
"Mathematically, for us, of course, the numbers are quite modest, but for the European Commission, this is a historic breakthrough," she explained.
In addition, as Stefanishyna emphasized, the implementation of the other five recommendations is not at a zero level, and only technical issues remain in relation to some of them.
She emphasized the importance of this mid-term evaluation clearly documenting the steps that still need to be taken to complete the implementation of all seven recommendations by October.
As the Reuters agency wrote, in the preliminary oral assessment by the European Commission of the progress on the way to membership, it is said that Ukraine has fulfilled 2 of the 7 conditions necessary for the start of accession negotiations.
