Ukraine and Bulgaria signed Joint Declaration on NATO membership

After the meeting of President Volodymyr Zelensky with Prime Minister of Bulgaria Nikolay Denkov, a Joint Declaration on the Euro-Atlantic integration of Ukraine was signed in Sofia

The signing took place during their joint press conference in Sofia, Censor.NET informs.

Bulgaria became the 22nd country with which Ukraine formalized support for membership in the Alliance. Ihor Zhovkva, deputy head of PO, said this on Facebook.

A Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between the Ministries of Energy of Ukraine and the Republic of Bulgaria regarding cooperation.

"On the eve of the NATO Summit in Vilnius, we are not wasting a single day! Today, Bulgaria, our important partner in the Black Sea region, has become the 22nd country with which we have formalized support for Ukraine's membership in the Alliance. According to the results of the bilateral meeting between the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and Prime Minister Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Nikolay Denkov signed the Joint Declaration on the Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine in the city of Sofia," he said.

Zhovkva explained that the document clearly testifies that Bulgaria supports Ukraine's acquisition of NATO membership "as soon as conditions permit."

"The Bulgarian side welcomes the significant achievements of Ukraine in progressing on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration, in particular, regarding the achievement of interoperability with NATO, confirms the intention to increase joint efforts to support Ukraine's integration into the Alliance and the implementation of NATO standards, and also fully supports the Ukraine-NATO Council," he added he is a deputy.

In addition, he informed that the declaration establishes Bulgaria's readiness to continue providing political and material support to Ukraine both from the side of the Alliance and at the bilateral level "as much as it will be necessary".

"There are only a few days left until the Vilnius NATO Summit. But the work continues - we are working with our partners simultaneously on several tracks to ensure the maximum effectiveness of the summit," - stressed the deputy head of the Office of the Head of State.

He reminded that in Vilnius, Ukraine seeks to receive a clear invitation to NATO membership and counts on the support of all partners.
