Russian dictator Vladimir Putin claims that Russia did not use cluster munitions in the war against Ukraine, although human rights activists, Ukrainian authorities, and foreign media reported hundreds of such cases.
Putin said this in an interview with Kremlin journalist Pavel Zarubin, Censor.NET reports with reference to Radio Liberty.
"The Russian Federation has a sufficient stock of various types of cluster munitions, so far this has not been done, it has not been used, and we did not have such a need, despite the known shortage in a certain period of time and we have ammunition, but we did not do this. But, of course, if they are used against us, we reserve the right to take mirror actions," he said.
It will be recalled that the international human rights organization Human rights watch reported that Russia regularly uses cluster munitions, causing hundreds of civilian deaths and damaging schools and private homes. In particular, they cite the case in Kramatorsk.
"One such attack on the train station in Kramatorsk on April 8, 2022 killed at least 58 civilians and injured another 100. The stigma created by the convention led to widespread international condemnation of these attacks," their report states.
