Best way for stability in Ukraine is membership in EU- von der Leyen
Accession to the EU is important for Ukraine, but the enlargement process is also important for the European Union itself.
This was stated by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, reports Censor.NET with reference to Ukrinform.
"The best way to ensure stability and prosperity for Ukraine in the medium and longer term is, of course, membership in the European Union. Just think about it. To restore Ukraine - Europe is the answer. In order to further strengthen Ukrainian democracy, Europe is the answer. To protect Ukraine from future intervention, Europe is the answer," she said.
According to von der Leyen, as much as joining the EU is important for Ukraine, it also works in the opposite direction - the enlargement process is important for the European Union itself.
"In a world where size and weight matter, it is clear that it is in Europe's geostrategic interests to complete (the creation of) our European Union. With a population of more than 500 million people living in a free, democratic, prosperous European Union. Just think about it. History is calling us again, so it is up to our generation to respond to this call," she addressed the heads of EU diplomatic missions.
