EU does not consider Lukashenko president, he stole election results - Stano

The European Union does not consider the Belarusian dictator Lukashenko to be president.

This was stated by EU spokesperson Peter Stano, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.

"The European Union can only be a threat to those who neglect democracy, human rights and the rights of their own citizens, and do not respect international law in international relations. The European Union is not an aggressive bloc, it does not wage wars, so no one should be afraid of the European Union," he said.

Stano noted that the EU can only take action against those who try to undermine the rules of democracy, international law and human rights, against people like Lukashenko.

"Lukashenko is not the president. We do not consider him a president. He is a ruler who stole the election results from his own people and continues to repress his own population. He is an accomplice to the crimes committed by Russia during the attack against Ukraine and its criminal aggression," the spokesman explained.

He noted that the EU has been taking precautionary measures since at least the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 to prevent any aggression by modern European dictators such as Lukashenko or Putin.

"We are working to make sure that Europe is better equipped to better withstand the threats that could come from these people like Lukashenko or Putin," Stano concluded.

As a reminder, on 2 April 2024, Lukashenko said that Belarus was preparing for war.
