China should put pressure on Russia - Zelenskyy on Beijing’s role in ending war with Russia
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on China to put pressure on Russia to stop the full-scale war waged against Ukraine.
The head of the Ukrainian state said this in an interview with French media, Censor.NET reports.
The President is convinced that China can force Russia to end the war against Ukraine.
"If China wants to, it can force Russia to stop this war. This is what we say about the whole world. China is an integral part of this world, one of the influential powers," the head of state said.
Zelenskyy said he did not want China to mediate between Ukraine and Russia. He called on Beijing to put pressure on the aggressor state.
"I would like them (China - ed.) not to take up a mediation mission. I would like them to put pressure on Russia to end the war. Just like the United States is putting pressure. Just like the EU is putting pressure. And the stronger the state, the more pressure should be put on Russia. Not vice versa," the Ukrainian leader said.
He noted that in a war in which there is an aggressor, one should not take a mediating position.
"I don't think this is a strong position. That's why I would like China to have a strong position on this war, to stop the Russians. We don't need anything extra. We don't need any additional support. Everything should be based on international law. I would very much like China to have such a very principled position," Zelensky added.
Earlier, the president said that Ukraine has never positioned China as an enemy. In his opinion, China could help Ukraine, as it has economic and political influence on the aggressor country Russia.
