Oleksandr Volkov, who was charged with organizing the abduction, torture, and murder of Yurii Verbytskyi, as well as the abduction and torture of Ihor Lutsenko, was released from custody.

This was reported by former MP, a veteran of the Ukrainian-Russian war, and UAV company commander Ihor Lutsenko, Censor.NET reports.

"Yesterday, the court released Oleksandr Volkov, a member of the gang that kidnapped me and the late Yurii Verbytskyi during Maidan. He was released right in the courtroom. Unfortunately, I was not at the hearing.

The law enforcement authorities failed to prove that it was a pre-organized gang for the abduction and violence against Maidan participants. Therefore, its leader, Oleksii Chebotarev, who is now in Russia, may avoid punishment, at least in the form of the deprivation of his numerous assets in Ukraine. He will be able to continue doing business," he said.

According to Lutsenko, the fact that Volkov spent several years in a pre-trial detention center is the biggest punishment in the Verbytskyi-Lutsenko case.

"All the others either fled (including with the assistance of 'ours') or got off with less severe problems," he added.

Ihor Lutsenko and Yurii Verbytskyi were abducted in Kyiv on 21 January 2014. A group of unknown persons took them outside the city and tortured them for several hours. Later, Lutsenko was left in a forest in the Boryspil district and managed to reach a settlement and report his whereabouts. Later, Verbytskyi's body was found in the same area.
