Poland wants to unilaterally deny asylum: We will not respect EU ideas that harm security

Прем’єр-міністр Польщі Дональд Туск

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the strategy developed by his government to combat illegal migration provides for the temporary suspension of asylum.

He said this at the congress of his Civic Platform party in Warsaw on Saturday, 12 October, Censor.NET reports citing Evropeiska Pravda.

Announcing the presentation of the strategy "Regaining control, ensuring security", Tusk said that one of its elements would be "a temporary territorial suspension of the right to asylum, and I will call for the recognition of this decision in Europe".

"We know very well how it is used by Lukashenko and Putin, by smugglers, human smugglers, human traffickers - how the right to asylum is used against the very essence of the right to asylum," he added.

The Polish prime minister noted that Warsaw will not "respect and implement any EU ideas if we are sure that they harm our security".

Poland has tried various measures to reduce the number of crossings of its eastern border, including building a wall on the border with Belarus and announcing the construction of additional fortifications.
