Supply of Taurus missiles to Ukraine will not make Germany party to war - opposition leader Merz

Фрідріх Мерц

The head of the Christian Democratic Union and a candidate for German chancellor from the opposition CDU/CSU bloc, Friedrich Merz, said that the supply of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine would not make Germany a party to the war.

According to Censor.NET, Tagesschau reports this.

Merz responded to the statements of the far-leftist Sarah Wagenknecht, who is opposed to providing Ukraine with any military assistance.

"The delivery of Taurus is anything but an entry into war. By the way, Ms. Wagenknecht knows this," Mertz said.

He added that the cruise missiles will enable Ukraine to defend itself against Russia's war, which violates international law.

"Countries like France and the United Kingdom are already supplying Ukraine with long-range weapons," Merz added.

As a reminder, German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock said she supports the transfer of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, but unfortunately, there is no unanimity among German politicians on this issue.
