Estonian intelligence predicts intensification of fighting in Kursk region: Russia wants to oust Ukrainian Armed Forces by January
Hostilities may intensify in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation, as well as in the area of Kupiansk.
This was stated by the head of the Estonian Defense Forces Intelligence Center, Ant Kiviselg, ERR reports, Censor.NET informs.
According to him, attacks by both Ukrainian and Russian troops are currently underway in the Kursk region, with areas moving from one side to the other.
Kiviselg also noted that the contingent of Russian troops in the Kursk region is constantly increasing. According to the Ukrainian military, there are about 50,000 troops in the region, of which about 10,000 are North Korean soldiers.
"Next week, there is likely to be an intensification of hostilities in the areas of Kursk and Kupiansk. In the area of Kurakhove, the already existing very high combat tempo is maintained," said the Estonian intelligence representative.
According to him, the large number of Russian troops in the Kursk region suggests that Russia will try to push Ukrainian forces out in the coming weeks or months.
"Most likely, they will try to do this before the onset of cold weather or in January 2025 at the latest," Kiviselg said.
In addition, the head of the Estonian intelligence center predicts that in November, the Russians will increase the number of drone attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure.
"It is likely that the Russian Federation will increase its attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure with UAVs, especially before the winter arrives. We have also seen this in a statistical sense: while in September there were about 1,200 UAVs, in October there were already 2,000, and in November we can expect this number to increase even more," Kiviselg said.
