UN Security Council is outdated and often paralyzed - Secretary General Guterres

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres criticized the activities of the UN Security Council and called it "outdated" and "often paralyzed."
He said this on Tuesday during the opening of the 10th Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations in the Portuguese city of Cascais, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
The Security Council is outdated and often paralyzed. Meanwhile, the international financial architecture does not reflect the modern economy and has become inadequate and unfair," the UN Secretary-General emphasized.
Guterres called for "continued work to strengthen global governance".
He emphasized the need to "renew and reform international cooperation to make it more diverse, fair and inclusive."
A call for "peace in Ukraine"
The UN Secretary-General also called for peace in Ukraine, Gaza, Lebanon and Sudan.
According to him, "peace in Ukraine" must be just and achieved "in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and General Assembly resolutions."
"We see cynical strategies aimed at sowing division and widening fault lines in societies," the Secretary-General said.
Guterres condemned the rise of "xenophobia, racism and intolerance, with social media being used as a powerful weapon."
