Zelenskyy: We are working on common views with Scholz on providing Ukraine with Taurus missiles

Volodymyr Zelenskyy and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is working to change German Chancellor Olaf Scholz 's mind about providing Kyiv with long-range Taurus missiles.

He said this at a press conference with Scholz, Censor.NET reports citing RBC-Ukraine.

Zelenskyy noted that today's talks with Scholz discussed the issue of further strengthening Ukraine's air defense.

The President emphasized that Ukraine was grateful for the German IRIS-T systems.

According to the Head of State, the issue of supplying long-range Taurus missiles was raised at the meeting with the Chancellor.

"We have common views on some issues, but we also have different views. We are constantly working to ensure that we have more in common on the Taurus issue," Zelenskyy emphasized.

The President reminded that Ukraine had been working on the position of Germany, France, Britain and the United States in the context of the supply of long-range weapons and their use.

Zelenskyy added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine could use Taurus missiles to destroy even more military targets in Russia.

As a reminder, the Taurus debate has reignited in Germany after the United States lifted long-range restrictions on Ukraine and Germany's early elections approached.

Friedrich Merz, head of the Christian Democratic Union and a candidate for the German presidency from the opposition CDU/CSU bloc, said that if elected, he would be ready to have a telephone conversation with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin about resolving the war in Ukraine under certain conditions.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has repeatedly opposed the provision of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
