Ukrainians urged to leave Syria due to worsening security situation - MFA

Ukrainian citizens staying in Syria are urged to leave the country or refrain from traveling.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Censor.NET reports.

"Due to the deteriorating security situation in Syria, the Embassy of Ukraine in Lebanon strongly recommends that Ukrainian citizens refrain from any trips to Syria until the security situation stabilizes, and those who continue to stay in the country should leave its territory," the statement said.

For citizens who decide to extend their stay in Syria, the embassy recommends avoiding crowded places, not participating in rallies and demonstrations, strictly observing security measures and rules of stay of foreigners in the country, not leaving their place of residence unless absolutely necessary, always having identification documents with them, and considering shortening their stay in the country.

What is happening in Syria

On November 28, after four years of relative calm, fighting between Bashar al-Assad's forces and opposition groups resumed with renewed vigor on the outskirts of Aleppo.

"Hayat Tahrir al-Sham announced a large-scale military operation against government forces. During the operation, they claimed to have captured over 400 square kilometers of territory, including strategically important areas.

November 29 Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which leads a coalition of opposition forces in Syria, enters Aleppo and clashes with government forces on the western outskirts of the city.

On November 30, the Syrian Armed Forces announced a "temporary withdrawal of troops" from Aleppo to prepare a counteroffensive against the opposition forces.
