South Korean parliament fails to impeach President Yun Seok-young

South Korean President Yun Seok-yol has avoided impeachment, as the National Assembly (parliament) of South Korea failed to get the required number of votes on Saturday.
According to Censor.NET with reference to RBC-Ukraine, this was reported by the Korea Times.
It is noted that the vote took place during the plenary session of parliament on Saturday. However, most deputies from the ruling party of South Korea, except for three, decided to boycott it.
Thus, all 192 deputies from the opposition and three deputies from the ruling People's Power Party voted for the impeachment, but this was not enough to get the required 200 votes.
It is reported that the opposition holds 192 of the 300 seats in parliament, and at least eight votes from the ruling party were needed to impeach the president.
It is also noted that before the vote on the impeachment bill, hundreds of thousands of people gathered in front of the National Assembly, calling on President Yun Seok-yol to resign.
As a reminder, on December 4, 2024, South Korea's opposition filed a motion to impeach President Yun Seok-yeol to the country's parliament after he attempted to declare martial law in the country.
Martial law in South Korea
On Tuesday, December 3, South Korean President Yun Seok-yol declared martial law in the country.
According to him, martial law was introduced to "root out pro-North Korean anti-state forces and protect the constitutional order."
Local media reported that this decision was approved after the opposition Democratic Party submitted a reduced draft budget to the parliamentary budget committee and made a motion to impeach the state auditor and chief prosecutor.
Later, following the president's decision , the country's parliament voted to lift martial law.
Later it became known that the South Korean government had lifted martial law.
