On the International Anti-Corruption Day, which is celebrated on 9 December, the State Border Guard Service reported on the number of attempts to bribe border guards in 2024.
This was reported by the SBGS press service , Censor.NET informs.
Thus, almost 400 attempts to provide illegal benefits totalling more than UAH 6.5 million were prevented (in 2023, this amount was UAH 3.8 million).
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia, more than 1,200 attempts to bribe border guards have been recorded in the amount of over UAH 15.5 million.
The SBGS noted that there is a system of incentives for refusing unlawful benefits. During the year, 149 border guards received awards and cash bonuses totalling almost UAH 250,000.
"At the same time, 18 SBGS servicemen have been detained for violating anti-corruption legislation since the beginning of the year. In particular, for abuse of office and facilitation of illegal activities at the border, including 9 people involved in the illegal trafficking of persons across the state border. Among those detained for corruption are 1 officer and 17 non-commissioned officers and privates," they added.
Eleven border guards were found guilty of corruption offences. The courts imposed fines of more than UAH 760,000, and sentenced 2 servicemen to imprisonment for 2 years and 5 years (with a probationary period of 3 years) respectively.
