More "close contacts" with Trump will be after his inauguration in January - Zelenskyy

Zelenskyy looks forward to closer contacts with Donald Trump

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy expects closer contacts with US President-elect Donald Trump to begin after his inauguration on 20 January 2025.

The head of state said this during a speech at the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities in Lviv, Censor.NET reports citing Suspilne.

According to him, he and Trump are currently in a period of so-called "getting to know each other", and cooperation with the administration of the current White House chief of staff, Joe Biden, is continuing.

This is still an acquaintance. He (Trump - ed.) cannot answer many things from the point of view of his legal capabilities. There hasn't been an inauguration of the new US president yet. And until that happens, we are working with President Biden. They (the Biden administration - ed.) are now increasing the number of decisions, the number of military packages and the amount of money allocated. I really hope that we will have closer contacts after the inauguration of the new US president, we will meet," Zelenskyy said.

The President of Ukraine expects the Trump's team to support Ukraine after his inauguration and not to stop providing aid.

Zelenskyy also expressed hope that the new US president would support Ukraine's Victory Plan, and perhaps add something of his own to it.

"I really believe and hope that it will add strength to our Plan, add strength to the relations between Ukraine and the United States. And only this union, a strong union. We need direct relations with the United States. We are a strong country. We have shown this on the battlefield during all of Putin's aggression," he concluded.

As a reminder, on 7 December, a trilateral meeting between Zelenskyy, Trump and Macron took place in Paris. It lasted more than 30 minutes.
