EU leaders call for urgent increase in military support for Ukraine, including air defense

At a meeting on Thursday, December 19, the leaders of the European Union called for an urgent increase in military support for Ukraine, as well as for intensifying work on the development of the country's military-industrial complex.
According to Censor.NET, citing Interfax-Ukraine, this is stated in the conclusions of the European Council in the part concerning Ukraine, adopted on Thursday in Brussels.
"The European Council reviewed the work done to provide military support to Ukraine. In order to help Ukraine effectively defend itself against Russian aggression, the European Council calls for an urgent increase in efforts, in particular in the supply of air defense systems, ammunition and missiles, as well as the provision of the necessary training and equipment for Ukrainian brigades," the document says.
In addition, the EU leaders stressed the importance of intensifying work to further support and develop Ukraine's defense industry and deepen its cooperation with the EU defense industry. "The European Council recalls the importance of implementing all components of the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration Loans for Ukraine ERA initiative, including the military component, and calls for the speedy implementation of decisions under the European Peace Facility. It also calls on the Council to accelerate the work on strengthening the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine," the conclusions read.
The European Council also recalled that military support to Ukraine will be provided subject to full compliance with the security and defense policies of the designated Member States and taking into account the security and defense interests of all Member States.
