100 tons of oil have already been taken from Southern Bug, and leakage will be repaired for another 10 days

Pollution of Southern Bug River in Mykolaiv

Measures to eliminate oil leakage into the Southern Bug are underway in Mykolaiv. The relevant services have installed booms and have already taken more than 100 tons of vegetable oil from the river.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv City Council, Censor.NET reports.

"According to our calculations, the main work will be completed approximately within 10 days. After that, measures will be taken to remove the oil residues using absorbent components and clean the area around the pollution site," the city council said.

At the same time, the weather affects the implementation of the planned work. If the air temperature drops, the completion date may also change, as this directly affects the speed of oil pumping.

As a reminder, on the night of December 28, a UAV's wreckage damaged a vegetable oil tank at an agricultural enterprise, causing oil to leak into the surrounding area and enter the Southern Bug River. About 9 thousand square meters of the territory were contaminated.

According to preliminary estimates by the Ministry of Environment, the estimated amount of damage is UAH 45 billion. At the same time, the oil leak did not result in the death of any animals.
