EU is preparing 16th package of sanctions against Russia, they will hit aluminum imports, agricultural products, shadow fleet and banks - Jozvwiak

The European Union is preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia. This will be the 16th sanctions package of the European Union.
This was reported on social network X by Radio Liberty's Europe editor Rikard Jozwiak, Censor.NET reports.
"A new package of EU sanctions against Russia is being prepared, but it will first be presented to member states next week. It targets aluminum, agricultural products, shadow fleet, LNG, and other banks," the journalist wrote.
He noted that it will be a "substantive package", despite the fact that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find new areas for sanctions. It concerns the fight against sanctions circumvention. It also includes restrictions on aluminum imports, tariffs on agricultural products plus fertilizers, and an expansion of the list of vessels in Russia's "shadow fleet" subject to sanctions.
In turn, Reuters, citing European diplomats, writes that EU members plan to adopt the 16th package of restrictions in February, on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
On 16 December 2024, the European Union imposed the 15th package of sanctions against Russia for its aggressive war against Ukraine.
