Ukraine has invited new US leadership to Kyiv, hopes for Trump’s visit as well - Sybiha

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha

Ukraine has invited senior US officials to Kyiv to intensify bilateral relations after the inauguration of Donald Trump.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha in an interview with European Pravda, Censor.NET reports.

According to Sybiha, Ukraine sees the change of power in the United States as "additional opportunities and chances" to deepen cooperation. He also noted that the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andrii Yermak, maintains direct contacts with the future White House administration.

"After January 20, when there will be no more legal restrictions on official contacts, we look forward to the beginning of an active phase of our formal relations. It is important for us that the United States realizes that Ukraine's security is an integral element of transatlantic security. That we are united by a common interest. And we really want the first visits of senior representatives of the new US administration to take place in Ukraine, and we are sending signals to our American friends and allies about this," the minister emphasized.

In addition, Sybiha said that the visit of US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg, which was postponed due to legal restrictions, is expected shortly after the inauguration. "I will not announce the date, because it should be the decision of the special envoy, but we expect him as soon as possible and are ready to start working immediately," he said.

Regarding a possible visit by Donald Trump, the Foreign Minister noted that Ukraine is interested in such a meeting: "We are certainly interested in the president's visit. But the main thing is not the place, but the result. It is very important that President Zelenskyy meets with President Trump. It is really very important. And then we will decide on further steps to achieve our common goal with the United States - a just peace."

To recap, Sybiha also noted that Ukraine has not changed its position on direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
